Collection Update 6.1

Thursday I got paid and GABI from Arizona came to Normal Records. The event was suppose to start at 5:30 PM but only one of the opening bands was there hanging around. Disappointed me after planing my day around the show. I worked out in the morning so I could make it on time after work. Either way, no reason to get upset, so I perused the shop as always. Out of the muck came an old gem.

Mogwai’s Hardcore Will Never Die was my sixth best/favorite album of 2011. Looking back, it would fall second to Real Estate’s Days. I’ve listened to both regularly but never crossed my mind to own Mogwai’s album now that I’m a vinyl connoisseur. Had to grab it. Totally worth the $20 to take it home that instant, especially after checking Discog and Amazon. Hearing it on wax in my living room is the best way to experience this masterpiece. Glad to own one of my favorite albums from this decade.

Collection Update 6

I’ve forgotten to update my growing collection over the last few weeks. I got Tall Friend’s debut album and one of my all time favorites, oOoOO’s self titled. Grabbed that one from discogs. Unfortunately the Headroom 7″ fell through but was able to secure the oOoOO LP for a $16. I’ll never part with a record like that. One of my all time favorites. Tall Friend’s debut is definitely in contention for a spot on my top 10 of the year. I’ve play it several times now at home and on my phone. They’re not going to stay small and underground for long.

Today I picked up Mitski’s Puberity 2 and Shabooh Shoobah by INXS. I’ve wanted to submerge myself into Mitski’s catalog for a while so this was a opportunity to start. The prices at Normal Records aren’t always the best, especially after discovering Folk Art Records down the street from Normal. In this case I got market value and I’m sure it will be sought after over time. INXS was a steal. It’s record I’ve wanted for a while after my tape version busted. Glad to pick that up for a few bucks.

Collection Update 5.1

Got some Amazon reward points and was able to bag up this gem. Adventures fronts as indie rock side project of Code Orange. They’re in the vein of Tigers Jaw and Turnover. Hopefully I can collect a few of their 7″ EP’s. I forgot to mention last time Jake gave me some John Denver and Top Gun soundtrack tapes. I’m currently working on getting some other records from the U.K. band Headroom. No word on that yet. People Discogs are pretty slow…
