Collection Update 6.1

Thursday I got paid and GABI from Arizona came to Normal Records. The event was suppose to start at 5:30 PM but only one of the opening bands was there hanging around. Disappointed me after planing my day around the show. I worked out in the morning so I could make it on time after work. Either way, no reason to get upset, so I perused the shop as always. Out of the muck came an old gem.

Mogwai’s Hardcore Will Never Die was my sixth best/favorite album of 2011. Looking back, it would fall second to Real Estate’s Days. I’ve listened to both regularly but never crossed my mind to own Mogwai’s album now that I’m a vinyl connoisseur. Had to grab it. Totally worth the $20 to take it home that instant, especially after checking Discog and Amazon. Hearing it on wax in my living room is the best way to experience this masterpiece. Glad to own one of my favorite albums from this decade.

Check out my vinyl collection here and on Discogs.

Collection Update 4.2

Thursday night I got a long await text. Cigarettes After Sex debut and The Smiths’ The Queen is Dead came in at Normal Records. I just came home with the records and got them sleeved in protective plastic. Such an odd satisfaction.

Gotta say the b-side of The Smiths LP is better than the “The Queen is Dead” side. All vocaless tracks which I can appreciate for the format I’m playing. I wasn’t familiar with any of those tracks but I’m happy to put on something new to me.

Man, I need to have my wallet a break at Normal. It’s my birthday in a few days so what the hell, right?

Collection Update 4.1

Greg came down to shop records with me today. We hit a lunch spot I’ve wanted to try since I started coming down to North Park. Also ran into an old friend from our school day. Seemed like everyone came down Summer for a beautiful day in the city.

Obviously I came home with something from Normal. They finally got Real Estate’s In Mind stocked. Also grabbed The Even’s The Odds at a disconnected price. They still have tons of LP’s I want but I don’t need to get broke. It’s a wonderful store that gets me out and about some days when I could easily shut in. Also nice of Greg to come down and talk shop. Keep up with each other’s experiences. Now I can sit back and finally listen drop into this perfect summer record from Real Estate.
