Collection Update 3

Today, Dikembe announced their first mixtape with some friends Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Henrietta, and Expert Timing. They will continue self-releasing music through the moniker Death Collective. Perhaps it will turn into their own label.

First print of 100 black cassettes, hand numbered, are almost sold out. Get it here before it’s gone. You can download and pay what you want for the record here.

I recently also acquired Thursday’s Full Collapse and The Pretender’s The Singles on tape as well. I usually would make more noise about getting a Thursday tape but it was just a reprint. Still satisfying to own.

Moore Makes a Difference

Sonny Moore and From First to Last dropped their first song together in almost ten years. More surprising than the release, “Make War” sounds seamless as if Moore never left the band.

It’s surprisingly contemporary for the genre. Just the arrangement itself sounds fresh unlike most post-hardcore today. Moore’s voice is just as captivating now as it was FFTL’s prime.

The lyrics still stand out too. “Happy anniversary from the bottom of my credit card” along with the Snapchat reference are just as good as any of their songs.

Now the question becomes is there full length and tour planned? With a strong single like this fans should expect more new music.

This may be the last opportunity to see FFTL with Sonny Moore in the line up again. As Skrillex he’ll enjoy more success professionally. This moment could be the last opportunity to see this notable line-up.

Music Wire #2

I was thinking about who my favorite active artists are at the moment. They’re not necessarily all timers however these groups tour and are creating in their primes.

Unlike the top influential records post, these artist have influenced what I want to hear these days and the kind of music I want to make at home.

They encapsulate who I am now. Music I’ve enjoyed in my life has always documented myself in time and emotions like a biography.

Julien Baker just signed with Matador Records and put out “Funeral Pyre” as a single. It’s a cry in your blankets by yourself song but she’s earned a feverish following with this sincerity.

Apparently she came through San Diego about a year ago. I have no reasonable excuse for why I missed her. She’s high on my list of shows to see. Hopefully there will be new record this year too.

Japandroids look poised for a big year. They have two new singles, “No Known Drink Or Drug” released today, for their new album due 1/27/17. I’ll also see them 3/10/17 in San Diego. Not much to say other than I’m excited for real rock’n’roll, leather jackets, and showers of PBRs.

The Hotelier put out their best record last year and will tour Europe in the first two months of 2017. Goodness has held up for me since it came out. I’m just hoping for another San Diego appearance and possibly some merch.

I’m hoping to continue finding more bands to attach myself to.
